PSA on TRT

What the number means, why it moves on a protocol, and what people usually do about it.

Updated 2026-09-27 · Part of the Magno guides

What it is

Prostate specific antigen is a protein the prostate leaks into the blood. It is the screening number for prostate trouble and it rises a little on testosterone.

The range

TRT-aware target

under 2.5 ng/mL

How to read the lab range

Under 2.5 ng/mL is comfortable, under 4 is the usual cut-off. On TRT the rule of thumb is a rise of more than 1.4 within a year, or above 4, means a urology check.

How Magno reads it

Import the PDF or a photo of the report and Magno finds PSA on it, keeps every test on one line, shows the change since the last one, and reads it against TRT-aware thresholds rather than the lab's generic range. The panel it belongs to, Sex Hormones, gets a written verdict with the probable causes and what people usually do.

Questions people ask

Does TRT cause prostate cancer?

The evidence says no for men screened before starting. It can make an existing cancer grow, which is why PSA is checked before and during.

How often should PSA be checked on TRT?

Before starting, at three to six months, then yearly, more often over 50 or with a family history.
